Cool Collector # Street Art Files

A while ago I posted about the 'signs of affection' from street-artist Paul Price who's goal was to make people happy and feel good with his street-art. It seems now this initiative has grown out into a project, on his site you can send him the message you would like to send into the world and he will do it for you! Talking about affection! Anyhow on his site you can see some new work inspired by the requests! Enjoy!

Last week I posted several posts about knitting, the trend just only began! Here some amazing knitted food creations by Philadelphia-based artist Ed Bing Lee. Evolving into knitting for 25 years, Bing Lee uses the usual macrame to create objects that look like food. It looks very sweet!

Check out the site of Artist Shawn Smit! He makes amazing sculptures that look like they consist of pixels. Seeing these figures in 3d makes it a little bizarre but beautiful!

Shawn: “My work investigates the slippery intersection between the digital world and reality. Specifically, I am interested in how we experience nature through technology.  When we see images of nature on TV or on a computer screen, we feel that we are seeing nature but we are really only seeing patterns of pixilated light.”

The men has a good point! Really love his work!

Cool Collector # Earth Love Files

Since one year I have a big roofterras in the middle of Rotterdam and we also created a litlle rooffarm. Since spring we've already eaten homegrown lettuce, paprika, red chilli peppers, lot's of herbs and our tomato's, onions, aubergines, grapes and strawberries will soon be ready to eat!

Now farming is a lot easier when you have a garden instead of a terras, because you have to carry all the earth you need to your roof! Plants like potatoes, carrots or mushrooms just don't work out that way!

But for mushrooms there is a pretty cool solution now! Check out the Back To The Roots Mushroom Kit, the package looks amazing and when the mushrooms start to grow I would almost describe it as art!

Back To The Roots is the brainchild of two UC Berkeley students, Alejandro Velez and Nikhil Arora back in 2009 during their final semester ~ they went from investment banking to full time urban mushroom farmers! Most unique about their kits: their oyster mushrooms grow in 100% recycled coffee grounds!

The only thing that's stopping me from ordering it directly is the price. A kit costs $19,95 without shipping, seem a little expensive for a box of mushrooms.

You have people that just like sneakers and you have sneakerfreakers! If you belong in the second group and are a true sneakerfreaker you should really visit this new initiative by Footlocker. Their new platform 'It's a sneaker thing' offers passionate sneakerfreakers a place to share their affection and love for sneakers.

And love for sneakers there is! Inspired by Footlockers sneaker movement, sneakerfreakers from all over the world posted some extraordinary things! Like a German couple who had a sneakerwedding. A project by Jesse who got inspired by Back to the future and made electronic powerlaces and I really liked the post about the launch of sneaker museum in Germany.

Besides Sneaker news there is also a lot information that is just fun, like a peak inside the Office of Nike CEO Mark Parker. His office is a colorful and creative chaos and really fun to see! But you can also find posts of old videoclips and very retro artist with very retro sneakers!

There are also some entries of amazing street-art projects. Like Adam Smith who became unwittingly the catalyst for the sneaker movement. Adam is a complete sneakerfreaker and not only owns a huge sneakercollection but also his work is inspired by sneakers like his Neon Sneaker street-art. I also really loved the contribution by Nico about Lace who turns city-chairs into sneakers by wrapping the chairs in extremely big laces, so the chairs look like sneakers (see picture and movie above). You can check out Nico Roux's Flickr stream to see more pictures about their amazing street projects.

The site is not only about extreme passionate sneakerfreakers, you can also find some interesting articles that are inivative. Like the article of Claire Michalewicz who writes about green, eco-friendly sneakers.

Now, I'm not what you call a sneakerfreaker, but I know some people who create some really cool sneaker projects who could easily showcase their work on this platform! So if you are a creative sneakerfreaker with creative ideas you can join the sneaker movement here.http://www.footlocker.eu/itsasneakerthing/# To stay up to date and see the extraordinary stunts of these sneakerfreakers, you can join the facebookpage here! Check out this song and especially the video! It's weird, bizarre but absolutely cool!
It’s by NewVillager which is a new band from San Fran/Brooklyn that acts as more of a creative collective rather than just a traditional band. Really looking forward to seeing more from these guys!

TweetingSeat is an interactive park bench which is designed to explore the potential for connecting digital and physical communities. The bench logs its usage by uploading images of its users and environment to a live Twitter feed, allowing people to interact with it both in person and virtually.
Created to explore the environments in which it is placed and the people whom it encounters, the aim of TweetingSeat is for people and communities to form their own relationship with the object through the way in which they choose to use it.
Each time someone sits down, TweetingSeat uploads an image from two cameras to the Twitterfeed. One camera is located on the bench looking at the surrounding space, and another is located nearby looking at the people who use it.

We see a lot of urban knitters lately, which is great cause using spraycan just ain't that original anymore and streetlife needs a feminim touch time to time! The work above is from street artist Chrystal Gregory, check out her site for more wonderfull inspiration! Love her work!!

Do you own a pet? You probably will agree with me that most frunitare for pets are horrible ugly! That's why I am really amused by the pei Pods concept:

Lovingly designed around your pet’s instinctual needs, pEi Pods are safe and nurturing habitats that complement your living space rather than disrupting it. The rounded design mimics cavelike sanctuaries that animals gravitate instinctively toward for protection and relaxation, while the sleek, elliptical exterior accents your interior design and enhances your living space.
