Cool Collector # Art Files

The images above are from the new exhibition from Ron English, one of the most recognizable pop artist at the moment. The exhibition entitled ‘Status Factory’shows a surreal assemblage of over 100 artworks. This highly interactive exhibition traces the arc of English’s most ambitious themes across mediums.

English has bombed the global landscape with unforgettable images, on the street, in museums, in movies, books, television, and album covers. English coined the term POPaganda to describe his signature mash-up of high and low cultural touchstones, from superhero mythology to totems of art history, populated with his vast and constantly growing arsenal of original characters.

English exists spiritually somewhere between a cartoon Abbie Hoffman and a grown-up, real-life Bart Simpson, delivering a steady stream of customized imagery laden with strong sociopolitical undertones, adolescent boy humor, subversive media savvy, and Dali-meets-Disney technique.

Dedicated to finding the sublime in the everyday and breaking the momentum of the didactic approach to art and life, English offers up an alternative universe where nothing is sacred, everything is subverted, and there is always room for a little good-natured fun.

I really would love to see this exhibition, unfortunately this exhibition takes place in the Frank M. Doyle Arts Pavilion in California. I really hope this exhibition will come to Europe soon!

Cool Collector # Art Files

Recently I had a pretty emotional experience, I thought my laptop had died. It was terrible, and I felt horrible about myself because I found it so terrible! I mean,it’s just a machine, why this dramatic feeling? After getting all the parts out of the laptop, cleaning them and putting them back, my laptop worked again and is still going. With this experience on my memory I saw this Pictures from Paul Fairchild who made a series of destroyed Apple products. You could wonder if there is any art-value in this pictures, but imagine what you would feel when it was your i-phone or notebook! That feeling of total panic really touches me and makes these series to me a very contemporary look on how important these I-gadgets are to us!

Cool Collector # Earth Love Files

Now this is a original Christmas Card, ‘the postcarden’. Once opened and unfolded into its log cabin, pop-out the skaters and simply sow the enclosed seeds and add water. In a few days your card will start to grow into a festive forest and will keep for 2 - 3 weeks. With this ‘Winter Wonderland design’you can create a mini winter forest. Really cool and a really good example of the mini-garden trend.

Cool Collector # Advertising Files

I absolutely love this way of advertising. ABSOLUT VODKA has used the bustling streets of Chicago for the ‘Drinks’campaign, to bring to life the unique universes created by visionary photographers, Ellen Von Unwerth and Amanda De Cadenet. Besides it looks very cool, I would really feel excited to wait for my bus in such luxury! Really hope this gets a trend in advertising, I wouldn’t mind if my relaxed waiting chair is sponsored by another company every week!
