Cool Collector # Art Files

These beautiful photo’s from the series ‘West African Masquerade’ are made by Phyllis Galembo who photographes all around the globe. For the past 20 years, Galembo has traveled to Nigeria, Brazil, Cuba, Jamaica, and Haiti to photograph the visually stunning costumes worn by traditional priests and priestesses, carnival masqueraders, dancers, and Haitian vodou practitioners. This series were shown during an exposition in the NY Tang museum in 2007. Though the works are not new it’s still very inspiring! In fashion we see a lot of tribalism and African influences, this photo’s really can help people develop new ideas! Watch the whole series here.
