Cool Collector # Eco Files

A little while ago I blogged about ready-made seedbombs. Here another example designed by the Common Studio that even goes further! A vending machine, ‘the Greenaid dispensary’ with balls made from clay, compost, and seeds, "seedbombs" are becoming an increasingly popular means combating the many forgotten grey spaces we encounter everyday-from sidewalk cracks to vacant lots and parking medians. They can be thrown anonymously into these derelict urban sites to temporarily reclaim and transform them into places worth looking at and caring for. The Greenaid dispensary simply makes these guerilla gardening efforts more accessible to all by appropriating the existing distribution system of the quarter operated candy machine. You can read here more about the concept.

I think the thought behind this idea is very nice, but in practice I think everyone tries it ones for fun but after a while people get used to the machine and don’t even notice it anymore. And what happens to this seed-compost-clay-mixture when the balls stay too long in the machine? I’m sure it doesn’t make them more attractive! The only way this could work is when it travels from big eco related activities to other big eco related activities. So it's always a new experience and the machines could be empty in time. But I hope I’m wrong
