De beelden hierboven komen uit de tentoonstelling 'The Travels of Bad' van Zander Blom. De tentoonstelling was tot voor kort te zien in de Rooke Gallery in Johannesburg. Beetje ver om te bezoeken en de tentoonstelling is al voorbij, dus eigenlijk oud nieuws. Toch vind ik deze installaties van verf en voorwerpen dusdanig gaaf dat ik denk dat het inspiratie kan bieden. Zander Blom heeft zelf het volgende te zeggen over zijn werk:
"The Travels of bad is essentially a satire that looks critically at the influence that exotic cultures and their artifacts have had on the avant-garde system of European visual art from the end of the 19th century onwards.The critique comes in the shape of mini-novella that is illustrated by a series of photographic works and accompanied by a pseudo rock-opera type symphonic drone thrash metal rock album."
Hoewel in dit werk de heftige kleuren en chaos dominant lijken te zijn, zie je dit nauwelijks terug in ouder werk van de kunstenaar. Zijn werk is wel chaotisch maar heeft ook een grafisch gevoel van ordening. Anyway, kijk hier zelf maar.... ik vind het gekleurde werk een stuk mooier in ieder geval!
