Cool Collector # Art Files

Lately I see a lot of bodyart that looks like wallpaperpatterns. Like a sort of indoor camouflage. A great exemple is the incredibly art from Korean artist Kim Joon – who so takes body art to the new level using his subjects as a creative, sprawling, slightly flawed canvas on which to create hi vibrant, colourful, and dynamic artworks.

Another example of designs that are inspired on vegetables. Designers
Mischer’Traxler presented a collection of bowls cast from vegetables in Milan last month.Called Reversed Volumes, the vessels are made by packing ceramic powder around vegetables where it hardens without firing, leaving a detailed imprint inside each container.
Lately we see a lot of vegetable inspired designs, I don't really know if I like it, it's not that handy. The colyflowerbowl is quit big, but where to use a unionbowl for? I think it would be fun to make a cake in it! Just for the contrast! source: bright.nl

Who doesn't recognize this problem. You sit down to enjoy your mail and... ring.. there goes your phone, or worse the phone of the person your eating with. Really annoying. This design might be the solution for this problem!
Parsons New School of Design presented this cloth at ICFF this year. It's made with a material that blocks cell phone signals and makes sure you can have a quiet and peacefull meal! It wouldn't surprise me if a lot of restaurants are interested in this product!

Ant Farms, personally I always thought of it as a geeky, boring way to spend your time though it can be very informative. This way of having an ant farm speaks more to my imagination! They're called FRAMEicariumsdesigned by Hugh Hayden & Katie Vitale

I think the idea of making an ant form right in front of an artwork is very clever! The ants are literally designing the art on your wall! Just let nature do it's beautiful work! Personally I would prefer another painting on the background! But still, great Idea!

Last week I received some work of Rotterdam based designer Sophie Duran. I really liked her concepts because they reflect on cultural developments around beauty. The first concept is called “The imperfectionist. Sophie plays with the fact that imperfection doesn’t make people less attractive because imperfection is what gives people a lot of their expression. She made four jewels that emphasize imperfections instead of hiding them.

THE IMPERFECTIONIST

‘ Imperfection gives expression, expression gives power of attraction.’

Plastic surgery and media influences are examples why people all over
the world are beginning to look more the same. That is a waste! It is
scientifically proved, the more average, the less attractive. Individual
unique characteristics make people attractive. Therefore, I designed
four jewels for the face; with these the user can define the intensity
of his expression. With a pump, you can blow up your lips in any
desirable dimension, you can attach chains to a grill in the corners of
your mouth, a blue moustache can be curled in different heights and
meters of lashes can be wind up.

Tiny miss Maryland queen of hope was inspired on Sophie’s mixed feeling about beauty pageants for little children. I think this problem is really interesting to work from, it’s kind of scary to see little girls that look and act like grown-up women. This problem is not only reflecting on beauty pigeons, look at celebrity kids like Tom Cruz’s daughter, who walks around on heals at the age of three or five year old fashion blogger Katie, who hangs around with designers at fashionshows instead of playing outside with normal kids. It confusing and disturbing! Read here what Sophie has to say about her series.

TINY MISS MARYLAND QUEEN OF HOPE

High heels, a tiny bikini and a big smile with bleu-white teeth. ‘Oh how adorable!’ and an ovation comes out of the audience. The American Tiny Miss Pageants, little girls at the age of 3, give me a shameful feeling. It looks like a disturbed children’s party.
My fashion fabric collection is inspired by these mixed feelings. A wrongly washed lycra with pony tails or a nude coloured latex with faded garlands are examples of fabrics. The serie of photographs give the second layer and underlines the confusion.

Cool Collector # Culture Files

This magazine is not exactly new anymore but worth mentioning! Every issue of this magazine is devoded to cultural developments in our society.

"We do not provide news about celebrities, trends or events. Instead, we devote each edition to deal with one of the great cultural issues of our time. ABOUT is a truly international composition of culture, presenting the diverse positions of contemporary artists, photographers and academics rather than trying to make a definitive statement." About Magazine

The issue on the pictures above was about beauty. It explores how far people go for beauty, interesting articles and also the design of the magazine is beautifull and cutting edge at same time. It really confronts you with the dark side of beauty!

Cool Collector # Music Files

Today I was tipped about the new website Spotify, they discribe their services like this:

"Spotify is a new way to listen to music.Any track you like, any time you like. Just search for it in Spotify, then play it. Any artist, any album, any genre - all available instantly. With Spotify, there are no limits to the amount of music you could listen to. Just help yourself to whatever you want, whenever you want it."

So, this site is like a musiclibrary online, you can listen to it, but you can't have it. A litte step closer to the future where nobody needs to download anymore and where we pay a sort of musictax every month or something. Anyway, it's for free when you don't listen more than 20 hours of music a month. When you want unlimited excess to their musiccollection, it costs 4,99 euro a moth. That's cheaper than most albums on I-Tunes! When we were trying Spotify out we also discovered something we probably gonna see back in the future too! During trying this out also confronted with something that's probably gonna be a annoying thing in the future. Commercials after the end of the song, very annoying!
Thanks to Paul for the tip!
