Mario Maniac Nails

Cool Collector # Trend Files

Lately I saw a lot of bizarre expressions of Super Mario love. All ideas have no future-potential or what so ever! But because the enormous popularity of this theme I felt like it was worth a blogpost! Enjoy!

A highly inventive promotional campaign by New Zealand retailer Superette involved placing indented plates across inner city bus stops, mall seats & park benches. The result? The retailer’s short-shorts sale message imprinted on the thighs that wear short shorts and skirts. Developed by DDB New Zealand, the bench ads were strategically placed (literally and figuratively) by targeting areas where the retailer’s fashion-conscious demographic was likely to traffic – arguably attempting to minimize the risk of having unsightly skin bearing the brand’s message.

Don't really know what to think about the inventive part! It works for advertising shortpants. In this case it's fun. But when in other ideas it depends on the person in question rather it's a good place to advertise! Some overweighted legs might not be the most beautiful place to have your logo on! Besides that I wonder if you feel it when you sit on these couches! In new Zealand the weather is nice everyday, over here in the Netherlands we only have like 50 days a year (that's really optimistic) to wear such short clothing. Anyhow I'm impressed by the theory, but very critical about the practice! I do know a nice name for this kind of advertisement inspired by a few posts ago about gladvertising, lets call this one Legvertising!

I love the iconic plastic bags you get in cheap cornorshops. The one with the smiley and the friendly quote 'thanks for shopping' is my favorite. Makes me feel less guilty about spending money. But mostly I just take a shoppingbag from home, because I know that spilling is killing! Seeing this leather bags by  Cast of Vices make my hart jump! Interactees is an interesting t-shirt concept that aims to serve as an ice-breaker for meet-ups and events. Consisting of variable designs in the form of a selection sheet often found in online surveys, the shirt comes with a detachable pin button as seen above. Its creator, Francisco Hui, explains:

Interactees is meant to use the t-shirt as a platform for expression. A simple way to introduce customization, and bring online habits offline.

Kyle Bean is a Brighton based designer specialising in hand crafted models, prop styling and art direction. He has worked on projects for a variety of clients including editorial commissions for Wallpaper*, Financial Times, Wired, New York Times Magazine, as well as shop window displays for Selfridges, Liberty, Diesel and Hermes. Not bad!

The project above, 'what came first' is a personal project that's really brilliant! The problem with rather the chicken or the egg came first is a problem that appears a lot in the lives of people that like to think! But is also a problem that's never really visualized so literally and funny like this! Respect! Check out more of Beans work here, his portfolio is really worth a visit!

Big Brother seems to become more real every day! We all saw sketches in scifi movies, like 'minority raport'  about advertisement that is personalized on the passer-by. According to this article on PSFK blog this technology isn't too far off anymore and this form of advertising already has a name: 'Gladvert'. Scary but fascinating stuff! Read the article down here!

article:

In the future, advertising might know what people want before even they do. Advertisements will scan passers-by and based on a store of data will be able to modulate themselves to target individuals. As the sharing of personal information spreads, the focus of advertising is becoming much more precise and intrusive. Advertisers are acquiring much of what is shared on the web in many ways, and often times through transactions where services are exchanged for the disclosure of personal information. Information becomes currency in the digital era.

A report by the Center For Future Studies imagines that this transformation in advertising is not too far off. In fact, a Japanese based company, NEC has already created age- and gender-guessing advertisements that are tailored to that data. This type of advertising is already being called a “Gladvert” and it is characterized by a technology that will be able to read a person’s emotions.

With such a wealth of personal data available so easily, it’s difficult to imagine that it wouldn’t be utilized by advertisers. Social media in many cases is practically defined by users’ indifference to sharing as much about themselves as possible. However, such pervasive advertising could reveal the drawbacks of revealing so much in the future. While detractors see the technology as endangering privacy, supports see it as providing a more interactive experience.

Cool Collector # Accessory Files

Here's a idea for some original accessory! These necklaces designed by David Bizer are waveforms. This necklace transforms that great guitar lick, or favorite lyric into a custom piece of jewelry. The sound is displayed as a waveform, which Bizer makes into a stencil in Photoshop, and then laser cuts it in plastic to create a beaded representation of the different wave heights. It doesn’t have to be music, any sound byte will do. The most popular, not surprisingly, are love messages. I suspect it are the ‘special songs’ of the couples in question!
You could also include ‘love messages’ in them, maybe a good idea for next valentine’s day!
