Cool Collector # Cool Collector Files

Dear readers, I am taking a holiday! The Cool Collector will be back in a month!

Enjoy the summer!!

Cool Collector # Food Files

This week I spotted two foodconcepts that are a little bizarre. Off course it are just concepts and totally fiction. The first concept is the ‘stone age meat’ concept, a joke about the Bosch freezers, so good that they can freeze meat for ‘century's’. In this concept meat like dinosaurs legs and sabertooth-filet are promoted. The second concept is called ‘unicorn meat’, with the catchy slogans ‘Pâté is passé Unicorn - the new white meat. Excellent source of sparkles!’ This second concept actually is for sale, you can buy it here. Personally I wouldn’t even consider eating this meaty, glittered mixture but it could be a funny gift idea!

The worldcup is still going on and more and more fun soccer concepts are spread on the internet. I really love this arty one ‘Paint FC’. Paint F.C. designer soccer balls are made in exclusive limited editions. Paint F.C. works with emerging artists, art directors, image-makers, personalities and fashion and street brands to create a unique design. Each ball has a different theme.

Artists work in collaboration with Paint F.C. to produce their design. Each ball is handmade in Pakistan, with attention to detail and quality. No child labor is used in the manufacture of a Paint F.C. soccer ball.
At this point only four designs are shown on their website, I really hope there will be more soon!

Cool Collector # Concept Files

On rebelart.com a post about a pop-up puppet theatre concept. Joel Kyack, a Los Angeles based artist, is using puppetry to help rush hour commuters stave off boredom. Kyack’s new project, Superclogger, presents puppet shows out of the back of a pick-up truck to drivers stuck in traffic jams. A soundtrack to the puppet show will be broadcast to the viewer’s car stereo. Unfortunatly he only performs in the LA area. This idea is really funny and can be used for other stuff besides entertainment!

Cool Collector # Design Files

Here another two examples of designs that make it possible to be closer to nature. A little birdhouse you can carry around your neck to attract really small birds. Personally I think you have more chance for a bee to come live in it than a bird… but it’s the thought that counts. It reminds me a bit of the wearable garden jewelry from Hafsteinn Juliusson. The little birdhouse jewelry is designed by the Dutch designer Tom Frencken. For the price you need to contact him.

Another example of this ‘wearable nature' is the ‘nutspeaker’ for your mp3 player. It’s tiny and handmade and advertised as ‘a rich sound when you’re on the go’. Now I don’t really believe the sound can be that rich with such a tiny speaker but it looks very cool! You can buy this nutspeaker here.

Cool Collector # Gadget Files

These mp3 players are supercool! Really love the attitude of the figure’s. You can order one of these players here at Mugo’s site. You can choose designs from five famous streetartists but you can also download a template and make your own figure in Adobe Illustrator. Love it! The only thing that bothers me a little is the functions of the mp3 player. Yes you get a great looking player, but there’s no handy screen to scroll trough and it contains only 2 gb musicstorage. That’s not very much when you are used to a 18 gb i-Pod! The prices are more appealing, a ready-made from one of Mugo’s designers costs $59 but when you design it yourself it’s only $49. Now that’s not much for something that’s has to be made once! Watch their products here!

# Editorial Files

Really, I laughed my ass of watching this editorial! You can find this editorial in V magazine issue # 66. Photographer Sebastian Faena and stylist Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele have created a homage to the Argentine phenomenon of ‘botineras’ or what we call Footballer’s wives. Personally I don’t think it’s only a Argentine phenomenon, here in Europe we see the same thing. In England they call them WAGS (wifes and girlfriends). Anyhow I really loved it because it’s full of humor. The horrible rich taste of these woman is awful. Yes they wear expensive labels, but though it’s high fashion they still look horrible slutty and that makes it so funny!

Cool Collector # Editorial Files

This editorial looks amazingly old! I really love it! The clothes off course tell us that it’s new. It looks very nationalistic and dramatic. It also includes some humor by using such a improvised decor! This editorial is shot by Quentin Shi for Vogue China.

Cool Collector # Concept Files

Imagine …you are a Japanese computer display company and you want to promote your product s to doctors? This company EIZO came up with a really funny idea and made a x-ray pinup calendar. It appears some doctors didn’t really appreciate this kind of advertising, I think it’s really original! Better than some stupid cups or pencil or other throw away crap with a company name on it!

Cool Collector # Design Files.

Now this is some simple brilliance! These eco friendly lids are created by the recently graduated designstudent Jack Bresnahn. These lids fit on top of the most basic tin can. Jack Bresnahan is a passionate believer that designers must take responsibility for their products from conception to disposal, he feels that; “anything that ends up in landfill is simply poor design”.

I really like this design, it’s simple and besides that very handy!
